The aim of this article is to instruct you how to onboard a FitMachine using your own WiFi network to communicate to the MachineCloud. You will not have purchased or received any MOVUS Gateways in your order.
Note that the v2.0 hardware version of the FitMachine does not have this capability while all versions from v2.1 onwards will be able to complete this process. If you received your FitMachines prior to the 15th of January 2019, you will likely have received v2.0 FitMachines. If you are uncertain of the hardware version of your FitMachines, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
There are some network requirements in order for FitMachines to report using non-MOVUS networks. Please see this article for these details:
Connecting a FitMachine to your WiFi Network
Open the FitMachine Onboarding App and scan the QR code of the FitMachine, ensuring that Bluetooth is turned on on your phone or device.
Select the ‘My Own WiFi’ icon on the ‘Choose Connection’ page. This will open the ‘Saved WiFi Networks’ page.
If the loading icon appears for more than 20 seconds, press Back in the top left-hand corner of the app and re-enter the ‘My Own WiFi’ page.
You will see the Movus network is already installed on all FitMachines, there is no need to delete this network though you may do so if you wish.
Select ‘Add a WiFi Network’, select the relevant security type, Unsecured or WPA2, and enter the network credentials of the network you’d like to connect to and press Save in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
You will see that your WiFi network has been added to the list of Saved WiFi Networks on the FitMachine.
If the FitMachine isn’t in the desired installation location by now, make sure that it is in place and all covers are closed or put back in place as they would be during regular operation.
This is to simulate the environment where the FitMachine will be monitoring your equipment. Testing the signal strength of the network with all the covers off will make it easier for the FitMachine to connect to the network and may result in the FitMachine not-reporting once the covers are put back in place.
Press Next Page at the bottom of the page to progress to the Network Check page where a check will begin immediately. MOVUS recommends re-running the check a couple of times just to be sure it will work in this location.
If the network check fails, the FitMachine will not be able to send samples to the MachineCloud so they will not appear on your Dashboard. You may need to install another hot spot nearer the FitMachine or talk to MOVUS about installing a MOVUS Gateway.
